  • Headquartered in Itami, Japan, Toyo Tires is one of the renowned tire brands that produces tires for pickups, passenger cars, CUVs, SUVs, and high-performance luxury vehicles. The Toyo Proxes 4 Plus is the manufacturer’s popular ultra-high-performance all-season tire that’s engineered to provide remarkable year-round traction and exemplary performance on paved roads. The tire is optimized for seamless handling, quieter rides, longevity, and better snow braking and is suitable for use on high-horsepower sports cars.

If you’re planning to buy a dependable UHP tire for your sports car, read our Toyo Proxes 4 Plus review to know its features and benefits, pros and cons, vehicle compatibility, and our verdict in the end.

    Features and Benefits

Many ultra-high-performance (UHP) tires feature a wider footprint and a low profile. They offer excellent traction and steering response, and are usually made for use in warmer months or when the temperature is more than 45 degrees Fahrenheit. The Proxes 4 Plus has most of these qualities but it isn’t just limited to performing in warmer months, as it can be used like an all-season tire and can also be used in light winter weather conditions. Let’s check out the features and benefits of this ultra-high-performance tire to explore its caliber.

    • Better braking and handling abilities – The Proxes 4 Plus features a high-grip silica tread compound that improves braking and handling abilities in dry and wet conditions. Additionally, the wider grooves and high sipe density also enhance braking performance and boost acceleration.
    • Improved steering response and cornering – The outer area of the tread features wider ribs and closed shoulders that ensure improved steering response and solid cornering performance.
    • Enhanced comforts and quieter rides – The pattern of this tire features multi-wave sipes that reduce the chances of irregular wear to provide smooth, vibration-free, and quieter rides.
    • Longer tread life – Toyo has tuned this tire for better longevity. The tire's high-grip silica tread compound is sturdy enough to withstand high-speed driving pressures and deliver an extended tread life. The durable construction avoids deformation and keeps the tire intact to avoid the chances of irregular wear and offer a longer service life.
    • Increased wet and snow traction – Unlike the traditional ultra-high-performance (UHP) tires, the Proxes 4 Plus is optimized for better performance on light snow along with wet weather performance. While the high-silica compound boosts traction and grip on wet surfaces, the multi-wave sipes improve light snow traction. The wider grooves and high sipe density also contribute to maximizing water and snow evacuation for improved traction when the tire runs through a thin layer of water or snow.
    • Impressive warranty coverage – Another great thing to highlight about the Toyo Proxes 4 Plus is its warranty coverage. It is offered with a limited manufacturer tread life warranty coverage of up to 50,000 miles.

Toyo offers the Proxes 4 Plus in 16- to 20-inch rims and its popular tire sizes include:

    Pros and Cons

With all the features and benefits of the Toyo Proxes 4 Plus discussed, let’s know its pros and cons to help you make an informed decision.

    PROS:

    • Better driving comfort than its competitors.
    • More affordable than its peers.
    • Great steering responsiveness and cornering ability at moderate speeds.
    • Longer tread wear than many other UHP, all-season tires in the category.
    • Solid traction and grip in dry and wet weather conditions.
    • Comes with up to 50,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty.

    CONS:

    • Not as durable as some of its rivals.
    • Traction, grip, and braking performance in light winter weather conditions need improvements.
    • High-speed stability and cornering performance aren’t very surprising.
    • Not made for track or competition racing.

SimpleTire’s view on Toyo Proxes 4 Plus tires

If you need an affordable ultra-high-performance (UHP) tire with greater all-season capabilities, then Toyo Proxes 4 Plus is one of the most contemporary choices for your sports car. Backed by up to 50,000 miles limited manufacturer tread life warranty, the tire ensures good driving comforts and has admirable steering responsiveness and cornering ability at moderate speeds, however, at higher speeds, you might feel a lag in performance.

The stability and cornering performance at higher speeds might not impress the drivers. The tire is optimized for a longer service life, which is one of the biggest value drivers for tire buyers. In dry and wet weather conditions, the traction and road grip are remarkable.

That being said, in light winter weather conditions, the traction, grip, and braking performance are somewhat sluggish. If you’re looking for a track or competition-specific tire, the Proxes 4 Plus isn’t one of the best choices.

The Toyo Proxes 4 Plus competes against the likes of Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus 2, Continental ExtremeContact DWS06, Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS, Firestone FireHawk A/S, Yokohama Advan Sport A/S, Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 (H452), and Kumho Ecsta 4X II KU22.

Vehicles the Toyo Proxes 4 Plus is a good replacement tire for

Suitable for use on sports cars, the Toyo Proxes 4 Plus can be a great replacement choice for vehicles like the Subaru Impreza, Nissan Maxima, Chevrolet Camaro, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang, and Nissan 370Z.

2019 STI. I bought these tires expecting them to be cheap tires. I'm waiting on some more yokohama's to come in from Subaru so in the meantime I have been punishing these toyos pretty hard comparing their limits to more expensive tires. The Toyo 4 pluses are good for their price. For perspective, I've run both Yokohama v105s and Michelin cup 2's on this car pushing just shy of 500hp at the wheels. Both of those are phenomenal. Cup 2s hook hard and the 105s do as well and really stand out (amazing) in the rain. If you're coming from something like that know these toyos aren't even in the same category as those two or their direct competitors. The TLDR is: For most commuter cars these tires are a fantastic option. If you have a car making decent power and you drive like in a**hole everyday and you are used to high end UHP tires buy a better tire for the sake of everyone else around you. Back to the toyos, here are my observations: *My biggest gripe is they are somewhat unpredictable. When you run really good UHP tire s you get spoiled with confidence because of super consistent results with driving conditions being the biggest variable. The toyos do fine, but don't offer the confidence to constantly push them close to their limits. *The toyos are slick as heck compared to the other two when cold. *It's hard to find traction from a dig though I'd imagine on most stock cars they would do just fine. *They do better than other "regular old tires" in the rain. Just know they are not exceptional like high-end tires. *A corner better than many other tires around that price point. *They like to understeer pretty hard in hard cornering with light acceleration which seems odd considering they do better than expected and every other category and it probably happens about 20 mph slower on average coming from the v105s which seems to me to be a massive difference. *They are way quieter than both the cup two's and the v105's on a stiff car that has a lot of road noise. *Overall the toyos are fantastic for both their price point and the somewhat grippy tire that comes with a tread life warranty. Most cars do not need a more expensive tire than this.

One of the worst tires I've ever hand, these things are dangerous in the wet and not much better in the dry! I would never buy these again after dropping 1k for these things. There are much better tires out there around the same price like the EXTREME CONTACT DWS 06, which I have on another car and blow these away.

I've always been a fan of Michelins but, due to an unfortunate series of events at a local tire dealer last fall, I would up with a set of Toyo Proxes 4 Plus (245/40R17 95W) on my 2005 330xi. I've driven these things for 30,000 miles of mostly highway driving, so far, and they handle very well, are quiet, and are holding up extremely well. I've driven them through the Vermont winter and, for ultra-performance all-season tires, they performed much better than expected, but I highly recommend snow tires instead. I like these things so much, I'm thinking of sticking with them over Michelins which don't seem to wear nearly so well.

Very responsive tire! Quiet riding and excellent wet/dry grip. Too early to comment on tread life, and I'll let ya know if it happens to snow this winter!! (Which is highly unusual)
