  • Mastercraft Tires devote the majority of their time and efforts to the craft of tire manufacturing. The brand makes tires for passengers, trucks, pickups, SUVs, and commercial vehicles, and their winter tires are designed to deal with the difficulties of driving during the most hazardous times of the year.

The Mastercraft Glacier Trex is a passenger-oriented studdable winter tire that is meant to get you where you need to go. It performs superbly in snow and may be studded to increase traction on ice. Thanks to the aggressive tread pattern and sturdy feel, you can drive your car all winter long.

However, Is this tire the most suitable one for your car? To learn more, let's take a look at the Mastercraft Glacier Trex Tire review.

    Features and Benefits

Consider Glacier Trex tires from Mastercraft if you're looking for winter tires that can perform effectively in challenging winter weather conditions. The more you know about Glacier Trex Tires, the more inclined you are to drive on them. Hence, let us learn their features and benefits.

Increased winter weather traction: Winter Compound Technology within the Glacier Trex allows for more flexibility and durability in colder climates. The siping design and winter compound of the directional tread improve grip on ice, snow, and in cold temperatures. To improve the ability to grip snow-on-snow and snow on ice, the Glacier Trex's revolutionary Snow Groove II design traps snow into the tread, and it can be pinned with studs to increase traction even further.

    • Reduced risk of hydroplaning: By distributing water and slush from beneath the footprint, the ideal groove arrangement improves hydroplaning resistance.
    • Enhanced handling: The continuous center tread block arrangement improves the steering and driving stability by ensuring consistent surface contact. To improve braking and acceleration, an aggressive, directed tread pattern latches onto snowy roadways.
    • Greater braking skills: With increased grip, the siping design of the directed tread increases braking effectiveness while reducing braking distance.
    • Quiet tire: During the drive, the ideal groove pattern of the directional tread design inhibits the production of road and tread pattern noise. This results in a quiet and comfortable drive.

    Pros and Cons

Should you go with Mastercraft Glacier Trex? Before we provide our final opinion, let us first examine its pros and cons:

    • Solid winter weather traction including ice, snow, sleet, and freezing rain
    • TSM #12 studs can be pinned for more traction in ice and snow (where permitted).
    • Ideal groove arrangement to reduce the risk of hydroplaning.
    • Winter Compound Technology to increase flexibility and durability.
    • An aggressive, directional tread pattern to strengthen braking and acceleration.
    • Snow Groove II design to offer snow-on-snow grip.

There are a lot of benefits to this tire, but are there any places where it falls short?

    • Not made to withstand temperatures beyond 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • No mileage warranty.
    • May wear easily.

If you're looking for a tire that'll handle the snow, look no further. I've first purchased these at a shop for an old car, a '94 Buick Park Avenue and it would go places where 4 wheel drive vehicles could go. I then later on needed snow tires for the rear tires of my Lincoln Towncar, and when paired with the excellent traction control system of the car, I was easily able to handle the northern Michigan snow and ice with ease. The aggressive tread design allows you to get grip on the snow and ice, however it's not any louder than my summer tires on dry pavement. The softer material does make the vehicle handle a bit more sloshy when driving on dry pavement, however I did keep them on all summer and they held up fine in the heat as well. Just remember tread life will be severely reduced when driving with snow tires in the summer. Simpletire made it easy to find these tires for my new car and they were shipped within 2 days, impressive for where I live. Overall a great experience and I'm currently shopping for new tires for my Jeep Grand Cherokee here.

These MasterCraft tires have been good so far, Awesome snow and wet traction. On ice and hard packed snow you still need to use caution. But for $87.00 a tire it's still a good Winter Tire.
